if you look at the main page of the blog, you will see “cool cat” logo to the left as an add.
diane, who owns “cool cat” did it, but we chose the look and the colors and the design. she was really easy to work with. and very patient! we all at http://www.oops50.com would recommend her…we love diane!

Yes Sadhvi, your site is up !!!!! Fantastic!!! along with many poppies I see, yes they are so beautiful, many in our garden as well. Many yellow wild one who spring up all over the place along with columbine which we have in an almost black variety… soooo beautiful. No Deer,( my NY State mother uses Deer scram) No Voles, here it’s slugs, amazing. Gentle Rätus has become an unrepentant sluginator, who could be tried for committing slugicide. The mass slug grave as evidence of our deep desire to minimize the slug population who, last year, were so plentiful you could not walk down the path without stepping on them ugg. There are varieties that we carefully protect, and of course the snails are welcome. thinking of you as the sky darkens, sheep tinkle away, und mine Deutsch ist STILL langsam

hi nancy,
is it too late to plant poppy seeds you ask? well, that would depend on which zone you live in. we are zone 7.
and it is too late for us. you can have great success sowing poppy seeds in the fall, again depending on the planting zone you live in. if you forget to do this, you can also plant them in the late winter, early early spring, but only if you freeze the seeds for a week or so before hand.
they love full sun…and they love being supported, by a wall, a fence, or each other!

Thanks, but I will have to rely on my cat to take care of the voles(and he does!) Moth balls are very toxic to cats and should never be used where a cat can get hold of one.

But back to the poppies, is it too late to plant seeds for this year?

Hi Nancy,
Here is what I have discovered: There are 2 kinds of poppies, the ones that come up from seed, and the ones that are called Oriental Poppies that grow and bloom from the same root every year. I have a friend who has lots of deer, and she has luck with her poppies, both kinds. I don’t have deer, but I have voles. And what i found out is that voles love the Oriental Poppy roots for dinner. So I have put some moth balls down the holes that i see around them, and that helps! So Nancy, you definitely should plan on having a perpetual poppy patch in your yard!

The poppies are beautiful and I would love to have some but the deer eat everything that blooms in my yard, do they like poppies? Do you have any secrets to repel the deer? I use Deer Off and that works but the buds always come up when I’m not at home and the deer bite them off before I can spray them. Help!
